Aim of Workshop

To increase participants’ understanding of best practice in engaging men with health and social services.


  1. Explore the concept of ‘men’s health’, how gender affects it, and the impact of social determinants.
  2. Reflect upon practitioner values and attitudes, and how these can shape health outcomes for men.
  3. Demonstrate how to guide health consultations with men using brief intervention and motivational interviewing techniques.
  4. Identify the key ‘rules of engagement’ for effectively building relationships with men.
  5. Offer guidance on / models for how to establish and sustain a men’s health group.

This course had a different form that I expected. I’m glad that it required me to get involved and allowed me to practice expressing my own feelings which I had problems with.
